Chinese New Year Celebrations at Wandsworth Library

Oaks and Acorns were very lucky to be invited to a special story time at Wandsworth Library where they listened to the story of The Great Race about the animals in the Chinese Zodiac.

After the story they took part in dancing using beautiful ribbons and used musical instruments to create sounds for the dancing lion and dragon!

Pizza making workshop at Pizza Express

Last week Oaks and Acorns enjoyed an exciting morning out to Pizza Express where they took part in a pizza making workshop. They put their chef hats and aprons on and the pizza chef taught them how to make the pizza.

Once the pizza prep was complete, the chef put the pizzas in the oven. Pizza Express kindly put them into takeaway boxes for everyone to enjoy back at school!

Since the exciting trip to Pizza Express, Oaks and Acorns have enjoyed making pizza in our very own Pizza Express role-play corner and Oak Class have written some fantastic instructions for making pizza!

Summer Term in Reception

Space!

This term Reception will be exploring and leaning about Space!

The children have made their own stars and planets to hang in our classroom, we have been retelling the different stories set in space and exploring our new space station role play.

We have been reading the story How to Catch a Star as a class. After reading the story we thought of our own ways to catch a star.

Have you got an idea of how you could catch your own star?

Phonics!

This week in phonics we are learning the different ways to write the sound /ae/

–      ay in play

–      ai in rain

–      ea in great

–      a_e in gate

Homework

From this week the Reception children will be receiving homework each week to help them practise different skills at home.

Can you have a go at this week’s homework and pracitise the sounds we learnt last term?

Week 2 – phonics unit 11

Reading

Don’t forget to read regularly with your child at home and write a short comment in their reading record.

Science Week in Reception!

During Science Week Reception did lots and exploring and investigating just like real Scientists!

We carried out a plant investigation. We planted three seeds.

The first seed we gave sun light and water.

The second plant only had water.

The last plant had sun light and water.

We made our own predictions and then we observed the plants over time to see what would happen.

We learnt that plants need water and sunlight to grow.

We also explored bath bombs!

First we made predictions and thought about what might happen if we put the bath bomb in some water.

Next we put the bath bombs in some water and observed to see what happened.

Isaiah “It’s disintegrating”

Malachijah “It’s melting”

Finally we had a go at making our own bath bombs. We worked together to measure out and mix the ingredients. Then we tested them in some water.

Ask us about our investigations to find out more!
